TotemDuino connected to MacBook!
After some mailing back and forth with the Totem team, they found a solution. Oddly enough, it’s a solution I tried, but it did not work the first time. It appears one has to install the Prolific USB-to-Serial drivers.
Installation log
Here’s what I did now:
I installed these drivers earlier and uninstalled them because they did not seem to work for me. Therefor I checked for the absence of the files mentioned in the uninstall section of the README.txt file that comes with the drivers. The files are absent, so my guess is that they were successfully uninstalled last time.
Installation
Followed the instructions in file: “PL2303 Mac OS X Driver v1.6.1 Installation Guide 06202017”
Step 1.
Downloaded the drivers from this page on the prolific site. Filename: PL2303_MacOSX_1.6.1_20170620.zip
Step 2.
Double-clicked the .pkg file and followed the online instructions up until the successful install.
Step 3.
Performed a reboot, this gave me a rotating ‘busy’ clock thing (white on an otherwise black background). I gave it 15 minutes before I forcefully switched my laptop of … and on again. Performed another reboot, just to be sure. This one completed within a minute.
Step 4.
Started ‘About this Mac’, ‘System Report’, ‘USB’ to see the USB devices.
Result on the right:
Then did a command in terminal:
‘ls –al /dev/tty.*’

Now I plugged in the TotemDuino and performed the same actions again. Started ‘About this Mac’, ‘System Report’, ‘USB’ to see the USB devices.

‘ls –al /dev/tty.*’
Result:
Result: success!
There it is! I really have absolutely no idea what I did different this time… Except maybe the second reboot. Anyway: happy that it works now.
